Church’s stand against family violence

St Columba Presbyterian Churches in Otumoetai is taking a stand against family violence in support of White Ribbon Day.

Reverend Donald Hegan and the congregation of St Columba on Otumoetai Road is inviting the community to join them for a morning tea to plant white ribbon stakes on Sunday, November 27.

“We want to make a statement to our community that family violence is not ok,” says Reverend Hegan.

St Columba’s morning tea on Sunday is one of several stake planting organised by churches across the North Island that have partnered up with Presbyterian Support Northern to support the White Ribbon campaign which aims to end men’s violence against women.

PSN community advocate Anne Overton says displaying posters or billboards and planting white ribbons in visible public places are simple acts that everyone can participate in and help to spread the message that family violence is not OK.

“It’s such an easy way to make a powerful statement about family violence. Planting white ribbons together is a great way to unite people and ignite conversations about a major social problem that affects our communities
