Representative for Auckland Presbytery

Howard joined the Board in February 2009 as representative for Auckland Presbytery.

Howard received his Bachelor of Laws from Auckland University in 1963.  Since then he has practised as a lawyer in private practise, specialising primarily in commercial litigation, but with some other fields such as transport, Commissions of inquiry and some Maori issues.

For many years he was a partner in a large firm.  Since 1995 he has been a Barrister Sole and in 1997 he was appointed Queens Counsel.

Howard is a Fellow of the NZ Institute of Directors and has served as a director of various companies and crown entities, including NZ Steel Ltd, Capital Life Assurance Ltd., the Yellow Bus Co. and the Land Transport Safety Authority.

For many years Howard was a member of and Minute Secretary to the Session of St David’s Presbyterian Church, Khyber Pass where he also taught Sunday School, sang in the Choir and served on the Board of Managers.  In recent years he has assisted the Church with several Judicial Inquiries under its Book of Order.

Howard is married to Judith and has three adult children and eight grandchildren.
